Due to the government shutdown that started on October 16th, those payments are currently on hold until funding comes back.
We know this deeply affects our communities. We are thinking of all the families this affects. It’s a stressful time so let’s help our friends and neighbors as best we can.
Please share these resources with anyone you know who would find this information valuable.
What You Need to Know?
- November benefits will not be issued: The USDA has stated that it cannot fund new SNAP benefits, and therefore, November payments will not be loaded onto EBT cards.
- Existing benefits are still usable: Any funds that were already on an EBT card from October or earlier will remain accessible.
- Alternative resources are needed: Recipients must seek out alternative food sources, as the regular November benefits will not be available.
- Benefits will be issued retroactively: Once the government reopens and funding is restored, the missed November benefits will be sent out as quickly as possible. The process may be delayed due to coordination with federal partners and other states.
The Pennsylvania Department of Human Services (DHS) will notify SNAP recipients when payments can resume and will provide information on when to expect their benefits.
What You Can Do?
- Use existing benefits first: Make sure to use any funds you already have on your EBT card before they expire.
- Find alternative food sources: Look for local food banks, pantries, and other community resources that can provide food assistance.
- Stay informed: Keep checking with your state’s SNAP agency for updates on the situation.
