REACH GRANT

In Allegheny County, Black residents are more likely to be disadvantaged or live in neighborhoods with higher rates of poverty, and are more likely to have poor health
outcomes compared to White residents. Consequently, when the COVID-19 Pandemic began to rapidly attack minority populations, the BEC collaborated with the Allegheny County Health
Department to address public health education and provide mobile vaccination clinics in places where Black people gather, i.e hair salons/barbershops, congregate housing, food banks, and
street fairs. This project is funded by the CDC through REACH (Racial and Ethnic Approaches to Community Health). The BEC has been a REACH partner for close to 5 years. REACH efforts are designed to concentrate on the Northside, Hazelwood, Larimer, East Hills, Homewood, Hill District, Garfield, Wilkinsburg, and the Mon Valley.
